"If children don't grow up knowing about nature, they won't understand it. And if they don't understand it, they won't protect it." David Attenborough

What are the sessions & who are they for?

My sessions are person-centred, offering opportunities for holistic growth. They support play, exploration, supported risk taking and a connection with nature. They can develop confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting.

My sessions are about helping everyone establish a deep and lasting connection with nature, so they can understand what an important and positive role it can be play in their lives as they grow.  We use fun and engaging activities to learn about nature while developing confidence and skills physically, mentally and emotionally. I encourage collaboration, problem solving and creativity in a safe and supportive environment.

About Ruth

From an early age I knew I wanted to work with nature and find a way to share my enthusiasm for it. Over the last seventeen years of working in wildlife conservation, education and community engagement I've been lucky enough to do so.

spent a long period of time working for the Wildlife Trust running, projects, sessions and events aimed at helping people experience, value and protect the natural world.  I've since enjoyed working with a very wide variety of different organisations and people, including local authorities.

Having my own children has been one of the most valuable and enjoyable learning experiences for me.  Learning to see nature through their eyes and experiencing their curiosity and excitement has helped me become a better forest school leader and made me even more passionate about the importance of helping people understand and enjoy nature.

I am fully qualified and have all the relevant certifications and insurance.

'We had a lovely forest school session at Secret Garden Forest School today. My son (3) loves being outdoors and learning more about nature, so these session are perfect for us. It’s so fun doing something both enjoyable and educational and I learnt lots myself!'
